'Global sustainable technology & innovation conferences', Belgium

Toby Philips, the Pathways Commission's Head of Research and Policy, attended the Global Sustainable Technology and Innovation Conference (G-STIC) held in Brussels, in late November.  G-STIC 2018 aims to shape the technological change required to deliver the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Toby was a panelist on the session: 'International Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Roadmap and Multi-stakeholder Contribution to STI Roadmap Development and Implementation.' He was joined by Verle Vandeweerd, Policy Director for G-STIC, Neth Dano, representing civil society, and Tracey Elliott from the European Academies' Science Advisory Council (EASAC.) The panel was moderated by Clovis Freire from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Investment.

The session looked at the roadmaps that private sector, civil society, philanthropies, and academia can design and implement, in harnessing STI to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs.) The discussions also focused on how multi-stakeholders can assist nations in building the necessary capacity and develop policy needed to implement the SDGs.
