Pathways attends Master Class for Governments

master class

Kigali, Rwanda: the Pathways Commission attended a masterclass for civil servants run by Future State and Smart Africa. People from across 5 African countries (Gabon, Ghana, Rwanda, Kenya, Djibouti) simulated tech solutions to problems as wide ranging as waste disposal to criminal history checks.

The group also learned about different aspects of digital policymaking including data empowerment, government systems architecture, digital building blocks, and values around privacy and consent.

“We got to hear about really interesting developments in countries like India who have designed a 'system of consent for digital IDs'. This allows citizens a simple way to control who has access to their information. There's lots to feed into our upcoming research including on health and education,” said Andrea Tartakowsky, the Commission’s Senior Policy and Research Officer.
