Rwanda workshop: tech innovations in healthcare

Kigali 2019 - The Team

Technological innovation plays a crucial role in primary health care. The introduction of simple and affordable technology, such as telemedicine, apps to connect GPs and patients, electronic prescriptions, and digital health records, could potentially produce significant gains in the efficiency and efficacy of primary health care interventions at a relatively low cost.

The Commission was in Rwanda on 6 March to host a workshop on this topic at the Africa Health Agenda International Conference. The session was chaired by the Commission's academic director Professor Benno Ndulu.

This workshop brought together representatives from government health ministries and global health NGOs, as well as medical practitioners and researchers, to map the opportunities and limitations of tech to enhance primary health care networks and connect medical professionals with patients in the developing world.
